Understand your own body ( Part 1)

The first thing you have to do is to get naked and stand in front of the mirror. Try to be true to yourself. Study your own body. Are you tall, medium, or short? Do you have a long neck; or short neck? Is your torso too long? or too short? Do you have long legs? Or short legs? Which part of your body is most appealing to you? Which part of your body do you want to hide? Are you skinny? Or medium? Or towards the side of “fat”? Remember, we are very hard on critizing our own body, most of the people don’t satisfy of their own body. But be realistic! Before you critize yourself too much, look at the big picture! If you are heavy weight, are you proportional? If you are a little skinny, are you proportional?

You have to understand that whatever you are wearing, it represent you.

Look at the outfit that you are wearing. Is there a focal point on your shoulder ( For example, a halter neckline; or a one shoulder design; or there are some details concentrated to the shoulder area)? If yes, is your shoulder looks beautiful that you want to drive people’s eye to your shoulder? Does it make sense to you? Show the best part of your body by co-ordinate with the outfit that you are putting on. Don’t just follow the trend. If the trend is hot on one shoulder detail, look at yourself in the mirror first before you buy it. Do you have a nice shoulder? Or do you have a slanted shoulder? Proportionally speaking, Does your shoulder has too much tissue? Is your shoulder too narrow?

Be careful of what you choose. If what is hot out there fits you, go for it! If not, don’t follow! The worst thing people do to themselves is to show their bad part of the body by blindly follow the trend.

If you have short waist, don’t co-ordinate your top and bottom in a high contrast color, since it will visually chop your body. It will make people see only your top of the torso and the leg ( but, where is the waist?)!!!! Try to wear something in a mono tone top and bottom to make your whole waistline elongated.

If you neck is too long, wear a turtle neck or a mock neck instead of a round neck. Please don’t wear a v-neck; v-neck is great for people who has short neck.

Remember, all these theories is about optical illusion. We cannot change our bodies, you have what God gave to you; unless you choose to go on a surgery. So what we can do is to change the look by co-ordinate with our outfit. It is all about Illusion.

There was a time, the low waist is really hot. Everyone is wearing a low waist pant or skirt…But for some people who have a muffin top, that is really not very appealing. The midriff is good to show when you have a great midriff. Not the other way round. Also, low waist will drop people’s eye to the bottom half of your body. So if you have short leg, it will make you look even shorter. Or if you have a longer than normal torso, it will make your leg looks short. It is a big NO! NO!

Remember! Bring out the best part of your body!

Excellent blog with great advice offered. Even if a person has body image issues, it’s always a good thing to be objective and try to find something that we about our own bodies and then dress to flatter our best attributes. You are an excellent example of this. You don’t necessarily follow the latest trends but always look stylish – what I’d call a trend-setter.

Thank you Chanti! Yes, you are absolutely right. I don’t necessary follow the trend, but I always know how to dress to show the best part of my body and bring out my personality too. If I can do so, I am sure everybody can do so too.
